We are now recruiting a Health & Safety Officer to join the Supermac’s Group.
Overview of Role:
The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for supporting the operations teams with implementing safety standards across all aspects of the business, with the end goal in keeping our employees safe and customers safe and reducing accidents.
The Health and Safety Officer will be integral to the development, monitoring and implementation of Health & Safety systems across the Group, which includes Supermac’s, Plaza Group, and So Hotel Group, ensuring that we are compliant with all Health and Safety Legislation.
Main Responsibilities
Grow a Better Business (Strategy)
· Assume accountability for the health and safety of our employees and customers across all our sites driving improvements across all areas while developing processes that help promote a strong health and safety culture and reduce our accidents
· Ensure that the strengths and values of the Supermac’s Group are further reinforced with best practice and integrity as key values of the business
· Develop inter personnel relationships to drive health and safety culture within the organisation
· Develop relationships both internally (employees) and with key external stakeholders (Safety bodies, government agencies, auditors, suppliers) and external contractors and develop Health and Safety polices and standards within our business
· Review and develop existing Safety Statements and Risk Assessment Policies across the Group ensuring compliance will all Health and Safety Legislation
· Review and develop all Accident Reporting Forms and reporting structure across the Group
· Compile and update Explosion Protection Documents (EPDs) applicable to the forecourt / service station side of the business.
Grow our People
· Lead, coach and develop our teams on health and safety policies, procedures, safety statements and risk assessments
· Working with the training department, organise and conduct health and safety training, including induction training, refresher training and manual handling
· Develop training tools to drive awareness and implementation of health and safety initiatives
· Lead initiatives to increase and develop best practice safety solutions, ensuring that there is communication across the business and a mentality of continuous improvement
· Co-ordinate / organise and keep a database for on-site staff training carried out across the group in Fire Safety, First Aid, Manual Handling, Chemical Training etc.
Grow our Revenue
· Work closely with all management to support the health and safety plan for the business that ensures we deliver a safe place of work for all our employees
· Implement health and safety processes and procedures across all our sites to protect our people while continually promoting and developing a proactive safety culture on site in a cost effective and proactive manner
· Manage the company’s health and safety performance by creating health and safety metrics, track and manage delivery against agreed timelines and communicate progress
Grow our Profit
· Lead health and safety incident and accident investigations to determine root cause and define preventative and corrective action
· Assist with the reduction of claims and insurance cost by actively completing risk assessment, assessing workplace hazards, reducing and eliminating risks through safe working procedure
· Ensure that adequate procedures, processes, controls, and reporting are in place to enable the business to track performance against the key health and safety metrics
KPI’s
· Reduction in number of accidents on our sites
· Reduction in claims and insurance cost due to reduction in incidents and accidents
· Reduce the Lost time/sick pay relating to injuries on sites
· Completion of audits against agreed schedule
· Completion of Fire Drills against agreed schedule
· Training of people (Manual Handling, ERT, First Aid)
Behavioural Competencies and Skills
· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
· Effective decision making
· Ability to identify risks and prioritise tasks
· Good organisation and leadership skills
· Degree in Health and Safety or a related discipline
· 1-2 years’ H&S experience working in a retail/catering environment
· Manual Handling Instructor (Desirable, but not essential)
· Full clean Drivers License (essential)
