**Supermac's Distribution Centre currently require a Transport Manager for their depot in Ballybrit Business Park, Galway**
As Transport & Logistics Manager you will have responsibility for the management of a fleet of company owned trucks, rigid and artic vehicles, delivering dry and paper products, together with perishable and frozen food products on a daily basis to over 100 locations throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day Operations, Route Planning, Compliance, Troubleshooting, Budgeting, Cost management, together with planned maintenance and upkeep of the fleet. In addition, the role involves management and rostering of drivers, managing driver hours, holidays, weekend mobile unit and event catering transport whilst ensuring regular communication and team work with other areas to include the Purchasing and Warehouse Manager to ensure a coordinated and timely delivery of goods in keeping with main business needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Management and Supervision of the Route Planning, factoring in new locations to deliver and collect from, as well as evaluating routes in the interest of driver hours, efficiency and vehicle suitability.
- Management of all transport personnel to include recruitment and onboarding of drivers, and ensuring they are fully trained and set up to meet required standard.
- Scheduling of full and part time drivers on a weekly basis, in keeping with the demands of the business and including the mobile units/catering events.
- Actively involved in driving, evaluating routes and truck efficiency, whilst remaining hands on and able to oversee all maintenance of vehicles and relevant compliance in keeping with legislation.
- Planning resources in terms of trucks and personnel to meet demand during high volume weekends/seasonality.
- Managing driver holidays to ensure cover, and fairness.
- Understanding our business, ensuring the transport function fully supports our stores and thus ensuring the delivery of first-class products and customer service at all times.
- Planning, arranging, monitoring and controlling maintenance and testing of vehicles and maintaining all associated up to date documentation (operational, administrative & legal).
- Management of Breakdowns, Costings, Compliance, Route Planning, Productivity and Labour
- Compliance with all Legal, Regulatory and Company Standards in relation to the transport of goods/organisation of working time/employment law.
- Ensuring adherence to the company H&S Policy and proactively contributes to the maintenance of a safe working environment.
- Working with warehousing and other departments in a professional and courteous manner, mindful of the many challenges each department has, and bringing a cooperative approach to enable a positive working environment.
Minimum Requirements:
Essential:
A full Rigid and Artic Licence, up to date Digi Card and CPC training, plus a minimum of 5 years recent experience managing the Transport Function, to include drivers, maintenance of trucks, compliance in keeping with legislation, whilst maintaining budgets and efficiency.
In addition, we require the following:
- An outgoing personality, together with a good knowledge of the transport systems in Ireland and enthusiastic approach to your work.
- Excellent verbal and written English along with an excellent telephone manner.
- Good computer skills, able to negotiate various relevant computer packages including Microsoft Windows
- Good standard of education preferably with a third level qualification or relevant diploma ideally
related to logistics, transport or supply chain. (This is not essential but preferred)
- Experience in the tight control of operating costs and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Good understanding of the role of Transport & Logistics Manager and to be strongly committed to staff as well as personal development.
- A highly organised, adaptable, flexible, conscientious, mature and self-confident individual of integrity with a calm but focused personality and ability to work under pressure.
