Biker Fest West gets ready for Action

The Galway Plaza is getting ready to host a full day of action for motor bike enthusiasts and families on Sunday, 15th May when Biker Fest West roars into the plaza to raise funds for Blood Bike West.  All bikes are welcome with new and vintage motor bikes on show while World-leading stunt rider, Galway Man Mattie Griffin will display some of his jaw dropping stunts on the day.  Sponsored by Supermac’s and The Galway Plaza. Biker Fest West takes place between 2-5pm.

As part of the event families can enjoy the first outing of the Cyclone Exhibition Game in the West.  Cyclone was first seen on The Late Late Show where contestants enter the cyclone machine and collect as many of the balls as possible which circulate rapidly around the internal walls.  Face painting and other family entertainment will engage all ages throughout the afternoon.

Blood Bike West is Ireland’s first Blood Bike service.  The voluntary organisation offers a comprehensive out-of-hours and holiday cover logistic service to hospitals and health centres throughout the West.  The organisation delivers blood and tissue samples, emergency medical supplies, scans, and on an increasing basis, breast milk from the Breast Milk Bank in Enniskillen to neonatal units throughout its coverage area.  Demand for the service continues to grow both in numbers and breadth of service.

Blood Bike West links up with other services throughout the country on a regular weekly basis, usually at night, in all weathers and conditions. This has seen Blood Bike West involved in several life-saving instances which otherwise would not have been possible. The essential service is manned and equipped entirely by volunteers with funds generated through donations and fundraising events.

Sponsor of Biker Fest West Pat McDonagh, Managing Director of Supermac’s and The Galway Plaza, says “it is a privilege to be involved in this fundraising event for such a vital service.  Blood Bike West is meeting essential needs within the health service and it is extremely important that the voluntary service is supported through fundraising.  Blood Bike West is shaping up to be a most enjoyable afternoon with something for everyone who stops into The Galway Plaza to take in some of the exceptional entertainment on the day.”
