Over €40,000 Raised By Supermac’s In Aid of Trócaire In 2016

Over the past year, between fundraisers and collection boxes in the family restaurants, in excess €40,000 was raised in aid of Trócaire by Supermac’s throughout the country The contribution consisted of a combination of fundraisers and collection boxes that were organised in Supermac’s outlets over the past year as well as contributions made at the Supermac’s Trócaire Fundraising Evening in the Loughrea Hotel and Spa last night (Thursday 8 December).

“We are delighted to have supported the Trócaire campaign again in 2016,” Supermac’s Managing Director, Pat McDonagh, said.  “Trócaire is Supermac’s charity of choice for over 20 years now and we have been working together to try an alleviate poverty where our assistance is most needed. This has been the driest year in 30 years in Southern Zimbabwe and the money we have collected has helped communities to drill for wells in the region to provide water. This is the real and lasting difference this funding can make to help these rural people to generate clean drinking water as well as water for crops. It’s a great source of pride for myself and Úna and all of us in Supermac’s to see onions, tomatoes, cabbages and other vegetables growing in Southern Zimbabwe because of the water we helped to supply,” Pat McDonagh said.

Trócaire Chief Executive, Éamonn Meehan said “Supermac’s staff and customers have made an enormous contribution to Trócaire’s work around the world. Their efforts to raise funds to support our work have allowed us to deliver support, relief and aid to some of the most vulnerable communities in the world. That support has changed people’s lives and helped people to work their way out of extreme poverty. I would like to thank Pat McDonagh and the entire Supermac’s organisation for their commitment to helping people living in extreme poverty overseas,” Mr Meehan said.

Trócaire works in over 25 countries and helped over 2.4 million people last year. Trócaire and Supermac’s have been partners for over 20 years and Supermac’s representatives regularly travel to areas supported by Trócaire to see 1^st hand the work that the dedicated Trócaire staff do.
