Overview of Role:

The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for supporting the operations teams with implementing safety policies and procedures across all aspects of the business. The goal is to keep our employees and customers safe and reduce incidents and accidents.

The Health and Safety Manager will be integral to the development, monitoring, and implementation of Health & Safety systems across the Group, which includes Supermacs Warehouse and Distribution Centre, Supermac’s Outlets, The Plaza Group, and SO Hotel Group etc, ensuring that we are compliant with all Health and Safety Legislation.

Main Responsibilities;

  • Develop Company Health & Safety Policies and Procedures in compliance with relevant legislation and industry best standards.
  • Implement and communicate health and safety policies and procedures with Managers and Staff of the various outlets within the Group.
  • Compile Site Specific Safety Statements and Risk Assessments for each site, ensuring that relevant documentation is up to date, reviewed periodically, and is available at store level for inspection by the HSA or other Enforcement agencies.
  • Deal with External site inspections and communicate with Government agencies where required.
  • Perform Health & Safety site audits, to help highlight areas for improvement, in order to eliminate or reduce risks and communicate audit findings with Site Managers, Area Managers, Hotel Managers etc.
  • Manage audit actions and follow up to ensure that issues highlighted are closed off on time.
  • Oversee/provide training programs to Staff and Managers to ensure compliance with First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Safety, Chemical, Induction, and other training requirements.
  • Maintain a training database for all on-site staff training carried out across the group.
  • Carry out accident/incident investigations where necessary, compile investigation reports and follow-up, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are put in place to prevent recurrences.
  • Analyse accident/incident trends across the business, communicate findings at the Group Level and highlight key action areas to reduce and prevent a recurrence.
  • Assume accountability for the health and safety of our employees and customers across all our sites and develop a strong safety culture within the group.
  • Identify, train, and support Safety Reps on each site to ensure a safety culture exists.
  • Review and develop all Accident Reporting Systems across the Group, ensuring that all relevant information about incidents and accidents is recorded and reported properly.
  • Review and update as required, the Explosion Protection Documents (EPDs) applicable to the forecourt/service station side of the business.
  • Take part and follow up on Insurance Inspections to reduce claims and insurance costs by actively completing risk assessment, assessing workplace hazards, and reducing and eliminating risks.

Requirements;

  • Qualification (Degree level) in Occupational Safety Health and Welfare.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience working in a managerial Health & Safety Role.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills
  • Ability to identify risks, prioritise tasks and work independently
  • Good organisation and leadership skills
  • First Aid, Fire and Manual Handling Instructor Trained (Desirable, but not essential)
  • A full, clean driver's license is essential, as we provide a company vehicle.
